Our Story

The name ‘Ortus’ is latin for ‘rising’

In 2011 Ortus Technology began life in a singular office space in Worksop. Since then, the Ortus Group has grown into a business with 30+ employees, providing industry leading Medical and Telematics solutions to ambulance services and other mission critical sectors across the United Kingdom.

2021

Celebrating 10 years

This year the Ortus Group celebrates 10 years in business. After the past 18 months of uncertainty with the coronavirus pandemic, the team are looking forward to getting back in the office and meeting up with clients in person.

So far the team have completed their first virtual conference with the College of Paramedics in May. The event was a great success and a useful platform to connect with the wider industry.

We attended our first in person event in September – The Emergency Services Show was a great success and it was brilliant to meet up with our customers in person and showcase what we have been working on over the past 2 years.

2020

New Challenges and Opportunities

2020 was a year most will remember for the covid-19 and lockdowns. As a business the Ortus Group worked as hard as ever to support customers and the Country. The business had to adapt and respond to the demand for ventilators for patient treatment during the height of the pandemic. Using industry contacts to secure ventilators from Weinmann and Aeonmed (a new supplier for ICU ventilators) for the Department of Health and the NHS.

In the background most staff were working from home but essential staff were in the office to fulfil crucial medical device maintenance, servicing and consumable replenishment.

The Ortus Academy blog and the Knowledge Hub was launched as a support function to digitally deliver learning resources, how to videos and helpful FAQs for the customer base.

Ortus also grew the employee numbers and shared their knowledge and training with a brand new apprenticeship scheme in partnership with the RNN Group and North Notts College.

2019 / 2020

Scottish Ambulance Service corpuls3 roll out complete.

Servicing the whole of Scotland, the corpuls3 is now in all land and air based emergency response vehicles, including fixed wing and rotary aircraft.

Gatwick Airport Ltd select Ortus Telematics as their approved telematics partner.

2019 also saw the launch of another new Telematics solution designed for airside fleet management; Airsight.

Try-ing New Avenues

In 2019 East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) were keen to try the new Asset Monitoring solution alongside the Telematics system already installed. They are the first trust to onboard with Insight Asset Monitoring.

The Ortus Group build business relationships outside the medical world and become the Official Medical Technology partner at Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Football Club. The partnership includes the positioning of 4 life-saving AEDs at key positions around Headingley Stadium.

2018

Growing the Family

2018 saw a lot of growth in terms of the Ortus Group product range.

Ortus Telematics launched Insight Asset Monitoring – allowing customers to track high value assets in their vehicles; increasing operations for vehicle preparation and device maintenance.

Ortus Medical welcomed another new development from Corpuls with a brand new AED to compliment the range and offer seamless integration with other Corpuls devices.

2017

Data Driven Evidence

In 2017 the Ortus Telematics system was successfully used as court evidence in an Ambulance incident. The data recorded showed that the driver was not responsible for the incident to save the trust from been held responsible. This was of great satisfaction to the team and shows the power of a reliable telematics system.

On the medical side of the business, corpuls3 contracts were secured with 3 more services including Yorkshire and 2 Air Ambulance Services;

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS).
Northern Ireland Air Ambulance (NIAA).
Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA).

2016

New Developments

After a successful 2015, the following year was spent taking care of all the new customer requirements and overseeing the installations.

2016 saw exciting new product developments from Corpuls with the launch of the corpuls CPR – a revolutionary single arm mechanical CPR device.

The team were busy growing the medical side of the business with Weinmann and Corpuls. They were awarded a supplier award from Weinmann for back-to-back Global Sales.

Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST) become the second customer to benefit from both product offerings from Ortus; with Datapoint (now Insight) and the corpuls3 defib rolled out across their entire fleet.
Ortus become a major supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) – via the NHS supply chain framework. The corpuls3 defib was selected for the RAF based Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). Find out more here.
Ortus are recognised as a certified supplier with places secured on both the Scottish NHS and Northern Ireland NHS defib frameworks.

2014

Product Range Growth

Through connections in the industry, Ortus secure a contract to exclusively supply and distribute the GS corpuls product range and Weinmann medical devices in the UK. Made in Germany, the devices use the latest technological advancements to aid with pre-hospital patient treatment.

The first customer to benefit from the corpuls3 defib/patient monitor is East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST).

Ortus are also responsible for the servicing of the devices supplied. MedServ was created from this to manage and support all customers with device servicing and maintenance.

2013

First Customer

2013 was when the hard work had paid off and the fun started as the first client was onboarded with Datapoint (now Insight). East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST), one of the largest Ambulance services geographically had a complete fleet rollout of the Telematics solution in order to improve fleet management and operations. They are still a valued client to this day.

This was also the year that the first employee was hired – Dr Graham Rangel-Sharp, a Master of Engineering and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is still with the company today as Chief Technical Officer and head of the Telematics department.

Open for Business!

Ortus Technology officially started in August 2011. The dream was to bring its advanced telematics solution to the blue-light market, specifically for Ambulances. This was a tactical decision based on previous experience and connections within the industry.

The first product developed over the initial 2 years was Datapoint – today it is known as Insight Telematics. The system could interpret the vast amount of electronic data transmitted throughout the Ambulance, monitoring things such as fuel usage, the vehicles’ physical actions and positioning, the onboard status of charging points, and much more. This data is then converted into actionable information that can be used to improve fleet operations, safety, and productivity for clients.
